أَلاAh! ياO لَقَوْمِيmy people—to the rescue مِنْfrom غَزالٍa gazelle مُرَبَّبٍpampered
يَجُولُsway وِشاحاهُhis two sashes عَلَىupon فَنَنٍa bough رَطْبِsupple
Ah, my people, save me from a pampered gazelle,
Whose two sashes sway upon a supple bough.
تَعَرَّضَpresented himself لِيto me يَوْماًone day فَصَوَّرْتُand so I portrayed حُسْنَهُhis beauty
بِبَلُّورَتَيْwith the two crystals of عَيْنَيَّmy two eyes فيupon صَفْحَةِthe page of القَلْبِthe heart
He appeared before me one day, and I portrayed his beauty
With the twin crystals of my eyes upon the heart’s page.
