O you fool, so full of yourself,

Like a ship cleaving the deep sea!

Do you think honor is an ornamented robe

That you strut in, and a steaming pot?

How mistaken your belief! For greatness is an aspiration

Whose attainment lies beyond surging seas.

You have squandered the worldly life you were given,

And will surely perish of regret in the Hereafter.

By God, if you examined yourself once,

You would find it scoffing at your evil conduct.

How long will you boast of your forefathers, though you have not attained

    What those illustrious forefathers achieved?

So make your deeds a witness on your behalf,

That spares you the need to mention decaying bones.
