قَلْبِيmy heart عَلَيْكَfor you يَرُفُّflutters
وَعِبْرَتِيand my tears لاnot تَجِفُّdry
My heart flutters for you,
My heart flutters for you;
and my tears never run dry.
And my tears never dry.
وَأَنْتَand you يَاO نُورَlight عَيْنِيmy eye
بِلَوْعَتِيof my anguish تَسْتَخِفُّyou make light
And you, O light of my eyes,
And you, O light of my eye,
make light of my burning anguish.
Make light of my anguish.
قَدْindeed شَفَّنِيhas worn me thin طُولُthe length of وَجْدِيmy yearning
وَالْحُبُّand love دَاءٌa disease يَشُفُّwears one thin
Long yearning has wasted me away,
My long yearning has worn me thin,
and love is a wasting disease.
And love is a wasting disease.
فَارْحَمْso pity فَدَيْتُكَmay I be your ransom صَبَّاًa lovesick lover
إِلَىtoward لُقَاكَmeeting you يَخِفُّhe hastens
So have mercy—may I be your ransom—on an ardent lover
So pity—may I be your ransom—a lovesick lover
who hastens to meet you.
Who hastens to meet you.
