سَعَيْتُI strove فَأَدْرَكْتُand so I attained الْمُنَىthe wishes غَيْرَexcept أَنَّنِيthat I
أَضَعْتُI squandered شَبَابِيmy youth فيin سَبِيلِthe path of طِلابِيmy pursuit
I strove and attained my desires, yet I
squandered my youth in pursuit of my aims.
فَمَاso what تَنْفَعُgood does الدُّنْيَاthe world وَإِنْeven if نِلْتُI attained كُلَّall مَاthat
تَمَنَّيْتُI wished for مِنْهَاfrom it بَعْدَafter فَقْدِthe loss of شَبابِيmy youth
So what good is the world, even if I attain all that
I desired of it, after losing my youth?
