O heart, what ails you that you do not awaken

from passion? O heart, what ails you?

Has it not occurred to you to turn back

from youthful folly? Has it not occurred to you?

Or did you suppose that the hand of Time

was too short to reach you?

Far from it! Passion has turned you aside

from turning back; nor do I think you ever will.

Entrust your affairs to the One who

created you from nothing and sustained you.

And abandon attachment to the impossible,

for it wears away your strength.

So perhaps you will wrest from the hand of the

passions, O my heart, your ropes.
