عَبَّاسُAbbas ياO خَيْرَbest المُلُوكِthe kings عَدَالَةًin justice
عَبَّاسُ يا خَيْرَ المُلُوكِ عَدَالَةً
وَأَجَلَّand most august مَنْthose whom نَطَقَspoke امْرُؤٌa person بِثَنَائِهِin praise of him
وَأَجَلَّ مَنْ نَطَقَ امْرُؤٌ بِثَنَائِهِ
Abbas, O best of kings in justice,
Abbas, O best of kings in justice
And most august of all whom anyone has praised.
And most eloquent of those who praised him
أَوْلَيْتَنِيyou bestowed on me مِنْكَfrom you الرِّضَاfavor وجَلَوْتَand you revealed لِيto me
أَوْلَيْتَنِي مِنْكَ الرِّضَا وجَلَوْتَ لِي
وَجْهاًa face قَرَأْتُI read البِشْرَgladness فيin أَثْنَائِهِits features
وَجْهاً قَرَأْتُ البِشْرَ في أَثْنَائِهِ
You bestowed your favor on me and revealed to me
You have given me your approval and revealed
A face in whose features I read gladness.
A face in which I read glad tidings
فاسْلَمْso remain safe لِمُلْكٍfor a kingdom أَنْتَyou بَدْرُfull moon سَرِيرِهِits throne
فاسْلَمْ لِمُلْكٍ أَنْتَ بَدْرُ سَرِيرِهِ
وَعِمَادُand the pillar قُوَّتِهِits strength ونَصْرُand the victory لِوائِهِits banner
وَعِمَادُ قُوَّتِهِ ونَصْرُ لِوائِهِ
So may you live secure for a kingdom—you are the full moon of its throne,
So submit to a kingdom of which you are the full moon of its throne
And the pillar of its strength and the victory of its banner.
And pillar of its strength and aid of its banner
يأَيُّهاO you الصَّادِيthe thirsty one إِلىfor نَيْلِattainment of الْمُنَىwishes
يأَيُّها الصَّادِي إِلى نَيْلِ الْمُنَى
رِدْapproach بَحْرَthe sea سُدَّتِهِhis court تَفُزْyou will win بِوَلائِهِwith his favor
رِدْ بَحْرَ سُدَّتِهِ تَفُزْ بِوَلائِهِ
O you who thirst for the fulfillment of wishes,
O you who leads to the attainment of wishes
Come to the sea of his court, and you will win his favor.
Repel the sea of its flood and you will win its allegiance
هُوَhe ذَلِكَthat الْمَلِكُthe king الَّذِيwho وَرِثinherited الْعُلاeminence
هُوَ ذَلِكَ الْمَلِكُ الَّذِي وَرِث الْعُلا
عَنْfrom نَفْسِهِhimself شَرَفاnobility وعَنand from آبائِهِhis forefathers
عَنْ نَفْسِهِ شَرَفا وعَن آبائِهِ
He is that king who inherited eminence,
He is that king who inherited glory
Through his own nobility and from his forefathers.
From himself and from his forefathers
الْعَدْلُjustice مِنْamong أَخْلاقِهِhis virtues والْعِلْمُand knowledge مِنْamong
الْعَدْلُ مِنْ أَخْلاقِهِ والْعِلْمُ مِنْ
أَوْصافِهِhis qualities والْحِلْمُand forbearance مِنْamong أَسْمَائِهِhis names
أَوْصافِهِ والْحِلْمُ مِنْ أَسْمَائِهِ
Justice is among his virtues, and knowledge among
Justice is of his morals, knowledge is of
His qualities, and forbearance among his names.
His attributes, and clemency is of his names
لاno غَرْوَwonder أَنْthat جَمَعَhe gathered المَحَامِدَpraiseworthy virtues يافِعاًwhile young
لا غَرْوَ أَنْ جَمَعَ المَحَامِدَ يافِعاً
وَسَمَاand he rose بِهِمَّتِهِthrough his resolve عَلَىabove نُظَرائِهِhis peers
وَسَمَا بِهِمَّتِهِ عَلَى نُظَرائِهِ
No wonder he gathered praiseworthy virtues while still young,
It is no wonder that he gathered all praise as heir
And rose above his peers through his lofty resolve.
And aimed with his resolve above his peers
فالْعَينُfor the eye وَهْيَand it is صَغِيرَةٌsmall فيin حَجْمِهاits size
فالْعَينُ وَهْيَ صَغِيرَةٌ في حَجْمِها
تَسَعُencompasses الفَضَاءَthe expanse بِأَرْضِهِwith its earth وسَمائِهِand its sky
تَسَعُ الفَضَاءَ بِأَرْضِهِ وسَمائِهِ
For the eye, though small in size,
For the eye, though small in its size
Takes in the expanse, with its earth and sky.
Can encompass the heavens with its earth and skies
