Pass it round before the dove begins to coo,

for nothing dispels cares but wine.

Well-aged, when it enters a heart,

it wipes away its weariness and ennui.

Have you not seen how the morning rains

have now left their mark in every quarter?

For how many a brook has its course on earth,

and how many a cloud its path through the sky!

So hasten to seize the choicest days and gain

their delight, and do not fear reproach.

And do not grieve over anything that has passed,

for sorrow is the shears of well-being.
