وَأَنْفُسٌand souls لِلصَّبُوحِfor morning wine مُنْتَظِرَهْwaiting
A rainy morning and a fragrant breeze,
A morning fresh, and breezes sweet perfumed,
And souls awaiting morning wine.
While souls for dawn's approach so keenly yearned,
فَدُرْso turn بِعَيْنَيْكَwith your two eyes حَيْثُwherever شِئْتَyou wish تَجِدْyou will find
مُلْكَاًa kingdom كَبِيراًvast وَجَنَّةًand a garden خَضِرَهْgreen
So turn your eyes wherever you wish: you will find
Then roam with your eyes wherever you please,
A vast kingdom and a verdant garden.
A vast kingdom you'll find, and meadows green.

Its sky is interwoven with branches,
Its sky with branches is densely entwined,
And its earth is girdled with vegetation.
Its land with plants and herbs is gaily attired,

A scene of pleasure whose splendor restores
A scene of joy, its charm doth repeat,
Life's veils as they slip away.
The joy of life, though life itself hath expired.
فَالْعُفْرُso the pale gazelles تَحْتَbeneath الظِّلالِthe shade رَاتِعَةٌgrazing

So the pale gazelles graze beneath the shade,
In the shade the antelope dreams in peace,
And birds are scattered above the branches.
The birds o’er the boughs joyously soar.

And dew pours down from its dripping points,
The dew from the hillsides ceaselessly pours,
Like scattered necklaces of pearls.
Like necklaces of pearls profusely showered.

Streams flow through the open expanse,
Rivulets through the plains meandering run,
And a raincloud in the sky pours down.
While rain from the welkin incessant doth pour,

A world of bliss whose bloom almost
A world of delight, where all splendour seems one,
Puts the sun to shame in its radiance.
Its beauty e'en outshining the sun in its power.

The breeze in its shade is never still, nor are
No stagnant its zephyrs, no cloud lurks in wait,
Its pools veiled with floating debris.
No traitress its downpour with mischief inspired,

So come my dear friend, let us sport while we may,
Pleasure, for my soul is weary with longing for youth.
For my soul toward youth and its pastimes hath spired,

And spare us the politics that have spread
And leave we all politics, whose devious ways,
Among people whose hearts are rancorous.
‘Twixt folk with strange motives hath evil inspired,

They spend their days in danger,
Who pass all their days surrounded by snares,
So wretched is the outcome of perilous politics!
And dire is the end of these politics mired.

A deception whose practitioner is forever
‘Tis naught but deceit, and the man therein caught,
Amid worries and a troubled life.
‘Twixt miseries and grief shall his days dire expire.

What have I to do with people? I owe them no
I owe not the folk and the folk owe not me,
Obligation to fulfill, nor have they a grievance against me.
No due to be paid and no debt I desire!

We have indeed met without prior acquaintance
We met without pact in this world of deceit,
In the abode of a world treacherous to its inhabitants.
With its people whofalsehood and treachery admire.

We amuse ourselves in it awhile, then leave it
We revel an era then leave it behind,
For chasms descending into the earth.
To doom and despair down its precipice dire.

Every person is bound for their end,
Every man journeys onward his goal to attain,
And every soul is obedient to the unseen.
Each soul with the hidden beyond doth conspire.

O my Lord, grant me such honor as
Oh Lord! Grant me that which my spirit craves,
Will gladden my soul, for it is afraid.
For it weary with waiting and worldly desire.

And do not entrust me to one who torments me,
Abandon me not to the hands of my foes!
For my soul has need of You.
For my soul unto Thee, its Protector doth cry.
