إِلَهي بِأربابِ النفوس الزكيّةِ

إِلَهي بِأربابِ النفوس الزكيّةِ

رِجالٌ سَمَوا بالحضرة الشاذليّةِ

رِجالٌ سَمَوا بالحضرة الشاذليّةِ

My God, by those endowed with pure souls—

My God, by the masters of pure souls,

men who rose high in the Shadhili presence;

Men who aspired in the Shadhiliyya presence,

رجالٌ لِمولاهم دُعوا فَتَسارعوا

رجالٌ لِمولاهم دُعوا فَتَسارعوا

وَما لِسواه فيهم من بقيّةِ

وَما لِسواه فيهم من بقيّةِ

men called to their Lord, who hastened,

Men who were called by their Master and hastened,

with no share in them remaining for any but Him.

And had no remainder in them but Him,

بِذكراهُ يَستشفون من كلّ علّةٍ

بِذكراهُ يَستشفون من كلّ علّةٍ

وَيَستأنسون الدهر من كلّ وحشةِ

وَيَستأنسون الدهر من كلّ وحشةِ

Through remembrance of Him, they seek healing from every ailment,

By His remembrance they are healed of every malady,

and throughout time find comfort against all loneliness.

And find the times pleasant from every desolation,

تَوالى عليهم وارِدات كلامهِ

تَوالى عليهم وارِدات كلامهِ

فَتُفهمهُم أَسراره في البريّةِ

فَتُفهمهُم أَسراره في البريّةِ

The spiritual influxes of His speech came upon them in succession,

Successions of His words come to them,

thus making them understand His secrets in creation.

So He explains to them secrets in the wilderness,

وَتُصبحُ بالإمدادِ أرضُ قلوبهم

وَتُصبحُ بالإمدادِ أرضُ قلوبهم

مفجّرةً مِن كلّ علم وحكمةِ

مفجّرةً مِن كلّ علم وحكمةِ

And through spiritual sustenance, the soil of their hearts becomes

And by replenishment the soil of their hearts is watered

made to gush with every kind of knowledge and wisdom.

Gushing with every knowledge and wisdom,

بِهم ينظرُ الرحمنُ للخلقِ كلّهم

بِهم ينظرُ الرحمنُ للخلقِ كلّهم

بِهم تنزلُ الرحمات في كلّ أمّةِ

بِهم تنزلُ الرحمات في كلّ أمّةِ

Through them, the All-Merciful looks upon all creation;

By them the Merciful looks upon all creation,

through them, mercies descend in every community.

By them descend mercies upon every nation,

إِلهي بِهم قرّب عُبَيدك منهمُ

إِلهي بِهم قرّب عُبَيدك منهمُ

لِيَسعد مِن كأسِ الغرامِ بفضلةِ

لِيَسعد مِن كأسِ الغرامِ بفضلةِ

My God, through them, draw Your humble servant near to them,

My God, through them bring Your servants near to them

that he may find bliss in a remnant from the cup of ardent love.

That he may delight from the cup of love and favor,

وحقّق لذاكَ الغوث نسبةَ جَمعِنا

وحقّق لذاكَ الغوث نسبةَ جَمعِنا

وَخُذ بنواصينا لأهدى طريقةِ

وَخُذ بنواصينا لأهدى طريقةِ

And confirm our gathering's affiliation to that Ghawth,

And accomplish for that succor our kinship to him,

and lead us by our forelocks to the most rightly guided path.

And take us by the forelock to the best way,

وَأظهِر مزايا الشيخ فينا فإنّنا

وَأظهِر مزايا الشيخ فينا فإنّنا

وَإن لم نَكن أهلاً لنا نوع نسبةِ

وَإن لم نَكن أهلاً لنا نوع نسبةِ

And manifest the sheikh's virtues in us, for we—

And manifest the Shaykh’s traits within us though we

even if unworthy—have a certain bond.

Are not worthy - but we have a kind of connection,

أُولئكَ قومٌ ليسَ يَشقى جليسُهم

أُولئكَ قومٌ ليسَ يَشقى جليسُهم

فَكيفَ بِمن منهم له فضل ذمّةِ

فَكيفَ بِمن منهم له فضل ذمّةِ

Those are people whose companion suffers no misery;

They are a people whose companion is not wretched,

then what of one who enjoys the favor of their pledged protection?

So what of one who has a superior claim to them?

مَننتَ عَلينا يا إلهي بحبّهم

مَننتَ عَلينا يا إلهي بحبّهم

فَذاك لدينا منك أوثق عهدةِ

فَذاك لدينا منك أوثق عهدةِ

You have favored us, O my God, with love for them;

You have favored us, my God, by their love,

thus, to us, that is Your surest pledge.

So that is for us from You the firmest pact,

لَك الحمدُ لا يُحصي ثناءك حامدٌ

لَك الحمدُ لا يُحصي ثناءك حامدٌ

لك الشكر مولانا على كلِّ نِعمةِ

لك الشكر مولانا على كلِّ نِعمةِ

Yours is praise; no praiser can encompass the praise due to You.

To You belongs all praise - no praiser encompasses Your praise -

Yours is thanksgiving, our Lord, for every blessing.

To You belongs all gratitude, our Master, for every blessing!
