May the minister’s horizon ever bring forth crescents,

rising toward the fullness of its halos.

And among them he is congratulated on a circumcision,

then a wedding, with happiness as its robe.

O God, what a circumcision! There was upheld

in it a tradition and a virtue of the Friend.

Thus it belongs to pure human nature, and for

Satan it is humiliation; for those of pure faith, a creed.

    O Mustafa, the minister whose

shade noble virtues have never ceased to seek,

and whom God has distinguished with bodily form

and character whose summit no creature has reached.

Who can help one who seeks to offer you praise

that fully pays your rightful due—who can help him?

Yet we say: no Mustafa among

the people have we known so true to his name as he.

Gentle speech, a welcoming face, an open hand:

whoever glimpses his lightning receives its downpour.

And soundness in judgment, speech, and

action; a covenant to which fidelity has tied its rope.

And purity in the robe of honor: were

purifying water mixed with it, it would not leave its original state.

You are the Salman of Husayn’s household,

and rightly you have taken his place among them.

Through the Prophet’s namesake you were granted a bond of kinship,

like what his kin were granted through the Prophet.

Indeed, in some of your radiant qualities

are guides to attaining the two felicities.

So remain in the ministry as long as you wish, a

chief counselor in whom the Marshal’s state takes pride,

enjoying, through your sons and then their sons,

branches, each one matching its root.

Indeed, this circumcision is the first step

looking out toward the perfection still awaited.

And, with gracious courtesy, you have

firmly linked it to the revered celebration of the Prophet’s birth.

So you brought the circumcision forward, out of reverence

for him whose circumcision preceded his rising.

The crown of splendor was fastened upon your valiant offspring,

when their amulets had already been removed.

So the eyes of good fortune, from the moment they beheld them,

recorded their date: “A horizon circumcised crescents.”
