فَعلى البروزِ لِفتنتي مَن دلّها
I remember her in her secluded chamber, hiding her coy charm.
My pact with her in the wine is to veil her charms,
Who, then, led her out to bewitch me?
Yet at my appearing for my trial who unveiled her?
كَشَفتshe drew aside ذوائبَtresses فاحمٍcoal-black hair عنfrom مقمرٍa moon-bright face
كَشَفت ذوائبَ فاحمٍ عن مقمرٍ

فَضَحَ الغزالَة إِذ عَلت كبداً لها
She drew coal-black tresses aside from a moon-bright face
She revealed the tresses of a fawn, on a moonlike face,
That shamed the sun as the sun rose to its zenith.
So the gazelle exposed herself when she rose over a hillock.
