كلُّ اِنتظامٍ آيلٌ لاِنصرام

كلُّ اِنتظامٍ آيلٌ لاِنصرام

ما هذهِ الدنيا بدارِ المُقام

ما هذهِ الدنيا بدارِ المُقام

All order is destined to come to an end;

Every order tends towards disorder

This world is no abode of permanence.

This world is no place for staying

نَحنُ بِها سفرٌ وأيّامُنا

نَحنُ بِها سفرٌ وأيّامُنا

مَراحلُ غايتهنَّ الحِمام

مَراحلُ غايتهنَّ الحِمام

We are travelers in it, and our days

We are but travelers, and our days

Are stages whose final destination is death.

Are stages, their goal departing

لا ملكٌ يَبقى ولا سوقةٌ

لا ملكٌ يَبقى ولا سوقةٌ

للّه مَولانا البقا وَالدَوام

للّه مَولانا البقا وَالدَوام

No king endures, nor do common folk;

No king remains, nor any leader

To God, our Lord, belong eternity and permanence.

To God belongs all permanence

طاعَتهُ جلّ لأهلِ النّهى

طاعَتهُ جلّ لأهلِ النّهى

مِن هذهِ الحياةِ أَسنى اِغتِنام

مِن هذهِ الحياةِ أَسنى اِغتِنام

Obedience to Him—exalted is He—for people of reason

Obedience to Him is best for those

Is the noblest gain from this life.

Whom pleasures tempt to moral straying

يا فَوزَ مَن أُلبسَ جِلبابها

يا فَوزَ مَن أُلبسَ جِلبابها

وَجرّ مِنه الذيلَ يومَ الزّحام

وَجرّ مِنه الذيلَ يومَ الزّحام

Oh, the triumph of one who is clothed in its robe

Happy he who shall wear its robe

And trails its hem on the day of the throng!

And trail its hem on Judgment Day

كَمَن غَدا يُسقى هُنا قبرهُ

كَمَن غَدا يُسقى هُنا قبرهُ

مِن وابلِ الرحمةِ صوبَ الغَمام

مِن وابلِ الرحمةِ صوبَ الغَمام

Like him whose grave here is now watered

As one whose grave is watered here

With mercy's downpour, the rain of clouds.

By mercy's rain from clouds arrayed

حفيدُ سادةٍ ملوكٍ لهم

حفيدُ سادةٍ ملوكٍ لهم

مَآثر بينَ الوَرى لا تُرام

مَآثر بينَ الوَرى لا تُرام

A descendant of lords, kings whose

Grandson of leading kings whose fame

Noble deeds among mankind are beyond reach.

For feats of arms cannot decay

كانَ على رِفعتهِ خافضاً

كانَ على رِفعتهِ خافضاً

جَناحهُ لِلصالحينَ الكرام

جَناحهُ لِلصالحينَ الكرام

Despite his high station, he would lower

Though raised so high, he bowed his wings

His wing to the righteous and noble,

To saints and sages on his way

مُعظّماً آلَ نبيّ الهدى

مُعظّماً آلَ نبيّ الهدى

فيهِ لَهم وَذوي الفضلِ اِحترام

فيهِ لَهم وَذوي الفضلِ اِحترام

Honoring the family of the Prophet of guidance;

Revering the Prophet's family,

He had respect for them and for people of virtue.

Paying respect to all men of grace

مُنتَسباً لِلشاذليّ الّذي

مُنتَسباً لِلشاذليّ الّذي

مِن بيتهِ القطبُ ليومِ القِيام

مِن بيتهِ القطبُ ليومِ القِيام

Affiliated with al-Shadhili, the one

Aligned with Shadhili, whose line

From whose house comes the spiritual Pole until Resurrection Day.

Gave saints from first to final day

أَحسّ بِالداعي لدارِ البقا

أَحسّ بِالداعي لدارِ البقا

فَقالَ يا بُشرايَ هذا المَرام

فَقالَ يا بُشرايَ هذا المَرام

He became aware of the caller to the abode of eternity,

Feeling the call to God's abode

Then said, “O joy for me! This is what I sought.”

He answered: Here I stand and pray

وَفاه بالتوحيدِ مُستَيقِناً

وَفاه بالتوحيدِ مُستَيقِناً

بِأنّه مِفتاحُ دارِ السلام

بِأنّه مِفتاحُ دارِ السلام

And professed God's oneness, certain

With pure attestment of God's oneness

That it is the key to the Abode of Peace.

The key to gardens where angels play

لَمّا رَأى ما قَد أعدّ له

لَمّا رَأى ما قَد أعدّ له

مَولاهُ عزّ مِن أيادٍ جِسام

مَولاهُ عزّ مِن أيادٍ جِسام

When he saw what had been prepared for him—

Seeing what his Master had prepared

Immense bounties from his Lord, exalted is He—

Of mighty gifts along his way

أَحبّ لُقياهُ فتاريخهُ

أَحبّ لُقياهُ فتاريخهُ

محمّدٌ أحبّ فوزَ الخِتام

محمّدٌ أحبّ فوزَ الخِتام

He loved meeting Him; thus his chronogram reads:

He loved to meet Him, so his date

“Muhammad loved the final triumph.”
