بِذاتكَ يا اللّه بِغيهبكَ الأسمى

بِذاتكَ يا اللّه بِغيهبكَ الأسمى

وَأسراركَ المبداتِ في مظهرِ الأسما

وَأسراركَ المبداتِ في مظهرِ الأسما

By Your very Essence, O God, and by Your most sublime Unseen,

By Your essence, O God, by Your most exalted darkness,

and by Your secrets revealed in the manifestation of the Names,

And by Your secrets disclosed in the manifestation of the Names,

أَجِرنا فإنّا في جواركَ عوّذٌ

أَجِرنا فإنّا في جواركَ عوّذٌ

وَإِنّك يا رحمنُ أدنى لَنا رُحمى

وَإِنّك يا رحمنُ أدنى لَنا رُحمى

grant us refuge, for within Your protection we are seekers of refuge.

Grant us refuge, for we seek shelter in Your protection.

Indeed, O All-Merciful, You are nearest to us in mercy—

And indeed, O All-Merciful, You are nearest to us in mercy.

رَحيمٌ وَإِن تغضب فَرَحمتك الّتي

رَحيمٌ وَإِن تغضب فَرَحمتك الّتي

لَها السبقُ فَاِجعَلها كَما بدأت ختما

لَها السبقُ فَاِجعَلها كَما بدأت ختما

merciful even when You are angry; for Your mercy is that which

You are Merciful even if You grow angry; for Your mercy, which

has precedence, so make it the ending, just as it was the beginning.

Has precedence—make it the end, as it was the beginning.

وَيا مالكَ الأملاكِ لا حولَ عندنا

وَيا مالكَ الأملاكِ لا حولَ عندنا

وَلا قوّةً إلّا بِقدرتكَ العظمى

وَلا قوّةً إلّا بِقدرتكَ العظمى

O Sovereign of all dominions, we have no power of our own,

And O Master of all dominions, we have no power,

nor any strength except through Your supreme power.

And no strength, except through Your supreme might.

تَقدّست يا قدّوسُ عمّا توهّمت

تَقدّست يا قدّوسُ عمّا توهّمت

ظنونٌ فَباعِد عَن خواطِرنا الوهما

ظنونٌ فَباعِد عَن خواطِرنا الوهما

Holy and exalted are You, O Most Holy, beyond what

Holy are You, O Most Holy, beyond what has been imagined

conjectures imagine; so drive delusion far from our thoughts.

By conjectures; so keep delusion far from our thoughts.

سَلامٌ فسلّمنا مِنَ السوءِ كلّه

سَلامٌ فسلّمنا مِنَ السوءِ كلّه

وَيا مُؤمنُ حُطنا بتأمينكَ الأحمى

وَيا مُؤمنُ حُطنا بتأمينكَ الأحمى

O Source of Peace, keep us safe from every evil;

You are Peace; so keep us safe from all evil.

O Giver of Security, encompass us with Your surest protection.

And O Giver of Security, guard us with Your strongest protection.

أَبحتَ لَنا من اِسمك المؤمن الّذي

أَبحتَ لَنا من اِسمك المؤمن الّذي

بِهِ قَد دُعينا المؤمنينَ حمىً أَسمى

بِهِ قَد دُعينا المؤمنينَ حمىً أَسمى

From Your Name al-Mu’min You have granted us

You granted us, from Your name 'Giver of Security',

a most exalted sanctuary, through which we have been called believers.

By which we have been called believers, a most exalted refuge.

فَلا نَختَشي الأسوا وأنتَ مُهيمنٌ

فَلا نَختَشي الأسوا وأنتَ مُهيمنٌ

عَلينا عزيزٌ لَم يُسَم حزبهُ هَضما

عَلينا عزيزٌ لَم يُسَم حزبهُ هَضما

Thus we fear no evils while You are the Watchful Guardian

So we do not fear the worst, while You are Guardian

over us—the Almighty, whose party has never been sullied by humiliation.

Over us, Almighty, whose followers have never suffered oppression.

لَكَ الطولُ يا جبّارُ فَاِجبُر قُلوبنا

لَكَ الطولُ يا جبّارُ فَاِجبُر قُلوبنا

فَقد صُدِعَت بالهمّ واِنفَعلت غمّا

فَقد صُدِعَت بالهمّ واِنفَعلت غمّا

Boundless bounty is Yours, O Restorer; mend our hearts,

Yours is bounty, O Compeller; so mend our hearts,

for care has riven them, and grief has overwhelmed them.

For they have been shattered by worry and afflicted with sorrow.

بِقَبضتكَ التصريفُ يا متكبّر

بِقَبضتكَ التصريفُ يا متكبّر

فلا تختشي منّا منازعةَ القسما

فلا تختشي منّا منازعةَ القسما

All governance lies in Your grasp, O Supremely Great;

The ordering of affairs is in Your grasp, O Supremely Great;

so fear no contest from us over what You apportion.

So fear no dispute from us over the apportionment.

وَيا خالقَ الأدواءِ عافِ قلوبنا

وَيا خالقَ الأدواءِ عافِ قلوبنا

وَأَجسامَنا أَن تَشتكي الضرّ والسقما

وَأَجسامَنا أَن تَشتكي الضرّ والسقما

O Creator of all things, grant well-being to our hearts

And O Creator of ailments, preserve our hearts

and bodies, that they may not suffer harm or sickness.

And our bodies from suffering harm and sickness.

وَيا بارياً أنفاسَنا وَنفوسنا

وَيا بارياً أنفاسَنا وَنفوسنا

تَعاليتَ نفِّس كَربنا فَلقد عمّا

تَعاليتَ نفِّس كَربنا فَلقد عمّا

O Originator of our breaths and our souls,

And O Maker of our breaths and our souls,

exalted are You—relieve our anguish, for it has spread everywhere.

Exalted are You; relieve our anguish, for it has spread everywhere.

مُصوّرنا حسّن محيّا حياتنا

مُصوّرنا حسّن محيّا حياتنا

فَقَد صارَ يبدو مكفهرّاً لنا جهما

فَقَد صارَ يبدو مكفهرّاً لنا جهما

O our Fashioner, beautify the countenance of our life,

Our Fashioner, beautify the face of our life,

for it has come to appear to us scowling, sullen, and grim.

For it has come to appear gloomy and grim to us.

وَلا ذنبَ يا غفّارُ يقنط عاصياً

وَلا ذنبَ يا غفّارُ يقنط عاصياً

وَذنبكَ يا قهّار يَستوجب النعمى

وَذنبكَ يا قهّار يَستوجب النعمى

No sin, O Ever-Forgiving, makes a disobedient sinner despair;

And no sin, O Ever-Forgiving, drives a sinner to despair;

and an offense against You, O All-Subduing, calls forth blessings.

And Your sin, O All-Subduing, merits blessing.

نَبوءُ لكَ اللّهمّ بالذنبِ كلّه

نَبوءُ لكَ اللّهمّ بالذنبِ كلّه

فَإن تغفرِ اللهمّ تغفر إذاً جمّا

فَإن تغفرِ اللهمّ تغفر إذاً جمّا

We confess to You, O God, all our sin;

We confess to You, O God, every sin.

and if You forgive, O God, then You forgive abundantly.

So if You forgive, O God, You will then forgive a great deal.

لَقد جُدتَ يا وهّاب قبل سؤالنا

لَقد جُدتَ يا وهّاب قبل سؤالنا

وَأَعطَيتنا الإيمانَ مِن قبل أَن نسمى

وَأَعطَيتنا الإيمانَ مِن قبل أَن نسمى

Indeed You bestowed freely, O Bestower, before we asked,

Indeed, You gave generously, O Bestower, before we asked,

and gave us faith before ever we were named.

And gave us faith before we were named.

وَأَفرَدتنا فضلاً لنفسك ضامناً

وَأَفرَدتنا فضلاً لنفسك ضامناً

لَنا الرزقَ يا رزّاقُ كافينا الهمّا

لَنا الرزقَ يا رزّاقُ كافينا الهمّا

By grace You singled us out for Yourself, guaranteeing

And in grace You singled us out for Yourself, guaranteeing

provision for us, O Provider, and sparing us all care.

Us sustenance, O Ever-Providing, sparing us worry.
