Do not blame me for being stirred to rapture by sorrow,
Blame me not that I rejoiced at a plaint
Whose heat nearly melted the heart.
Whose heat made my heart all but melt away

And strip from me the robe of dignity with a cup
Forgo from me the garb of dignity with a cup
That awakens joy—for the noble man is given to rapture.
That awakens delight- the generous is blithe
لَيسis not شقّtearing الجيوبِgarment necklines حقّاًa duty عليناupon us

Tearing collars is no duty of ours;
Tearing our pockets is no right upon us
What wrong have collars done us?
What trespass pockets have committed on us
ماnot رَمَتناhave struck us بالشوقِwith longing إلّاexcept قلوبٌhearts
إنّماonly الحقّwhat is right أنthat تشقّbe torn القلوبُthe hearts
None but hearts have struck us with longing;
Naught but hearts smote us with yearning
Rather, it is right that hearts should be torn.
In truth the right is for hearts to rend apart
