كأنّ الوردَ مَحفوفاً بزهرِ
وَأوراقٍand leaves منَof النارنجِthe bitter orange خضرِgreen
وَأوراقٍ منَ النارنجِ خضرِ
As though the roses, encircled by blossoms
As if the roses were surrounded by blossoms
and green leaves of the bitter orange,
And leaves of emerald green
خُدودٌcheeks فيin لثامٍa face veil سندسيٍّof fine silk
خُدودٌ في لثامٍ سندسيٍّ
مُطرّزةٌembroidered حواشيهِits borders بدرِّwith pearls
مُطرّزةٌ حواشيهِ بدرِّ
were cheeks within a veil of fine silk,
Cheeks behind a silken veil
its borders embroidered with pearls.
With borders embroidered by pearls
أَلَمhave you not تَنظرlooked إِلىat وَرَقٍleaves وزهرِand blossoms
أَلَم تَنظر إِلى وَرَقٍ وزهرِ
كُؤوسِgoblets زَبرجدٍchrysolite بحبابwith bubbles of خمرِwine
كُؤوسِ زَبرجدٍ بحباب خمرِ
Have you not looked at leaves and blossoms—
Have you not seen leaves and blossoms
goblets of chrysolite with bubbles of wine?
Like cups of aquamarine filled with wine
كَثوبٍlike a robe سندسيٍّof fine silk فوقَabove عقدٍa necklace
كَثوبٍ سندسيٍّ فوقَ عقدٍ
بَداappeared مِنfrom تحتِbeneath رمّانٍpomegranates لصدرِof a bosom
بَدا مِن تحتِ رمّانٍ لصدرِ
Like a robe of fine silk over a necklace
Like a silken garment above a necklace
that appeared beneath a bosom's pomegranates.
That appeared beneath a pomegranate bosom
أَدارَpassed around الوردَthe roses فيamong ورقٍleaves وزهرِand blossoms
أَدارَ الوردَ في ورقٍ وزهرِ
كُؤوسgoblets زبرجدٍchrysolite بحبابwith bubbles of خمرِwine
كُؤوس زبرجدٍ بحباب خمرِ
The roses passed round, amid leaves and blossoms,
It turned the roses among leaves and blossoms
goblets of chrysolite with bubbles of wine,
Like cups of aquamarine filled with wine
كَماjust as اِلتَثَمتwere veiled ببردٍin a cloak سندسيّof fine silk
كَما اِلتَثَمت ببردٍ سندسيّ
مَراشفُlips غادةٍa maiden عضّتwere bitten بثغرِby teeth
مَراشفُ غادةٍ عضّت بثغرِ
just as, in a cloak of fine silk, were veiled
As if it wore a silken cloak
a maiden's lips, bitten by teeth.
The pillows of a languid one have bitten its lips
وَحاكىand mirrored الزهرَthe blossoms فيin الخضراءِthe greenery زهرٌblossoms
وَحاكى الزهرَ في الخضراءِ زهرٌ
تَفتّحopened حولهaround it مِنfrom شذرِfragments of تبرِraw gold
تَفتّح حوله مِن شذرِ تبرِ
And blossoms mirrored the blooms amid the greenery,
And mimicked the blossoms in the green
opening around them, fashioned from fragments of raw gold.
A blossom opened up around it from particles of aloeswood
