بَعدَ التحيّة والثناءِ العاطرِ

بَعدَ التحيّة والثناءِ العاطرِ

وَدعاءِ ودٍّ مِن صميمِ الخاطرِ

وَدعاءِ ودٍّ مِن صميمِ الخاطرِ

After greetings and fragrant praise,

After greetings and fragrant praise

and a prayer of affection from the depths of the heart,

And prayers of affection from my innermost heart

أُنهي بأنّكمُ اِقتَرحتم مطلباً

أُنهي بأنّكمُ اِقتَرحتم مطلباً

واللّه ليسَ لدى الودود بحاضرِ

واللّه ليسَ لدى الودود بحاضرِ

I inform you that you have requested something

I must say, my friends, your request

which, by God, your loving friend does not have at hand.

Is beyond what this fond one can offer

وَأَنا بقيدِ تألّمٍ من نزلةٍ

وَأَنا بقيدِ تألّمٍ من نزلةٍ

عُوفيتمُ ما أن يزال مساوري

عُوفيتمُ ما أن يزال مساوري

And I am fettered by suffering from a cold;

For I am bound by the pain of an illness

may you be kept well—it still assails me.

That you graciously endured while my bracelet remained

فَاِبسط ليَ العذرَ الجميلَ معَ الدعا

فَاِبسط ليَ العذرَ الجميلَ معَ الدعا

حتّى يُوافيكم بِأيمن طائرِ

حتّى يُوافيكم بِأيمن طائرِ

So grant me gracious pardon, along with prayers,

So please extend to me beautiful forgiveness and prayer

until it reaches you with the most auspicious omen.

Until the auspicious bird brings to you what you desire
