كُتبَ القتلُ والقتالُ عَلينا

ذا بلحظِ المَها وذا بالنصولِ

Slaying and combat have been decreed for us:

the one by the oryxes’ glances, the other by blades.

فَعَلينا صبرٌ لِهذا وَهذا

فَعَلينا صبرٌ لِهذا وَهذا

وَعلى الغانياتِ جرُّ الذيولِ

وَعلى الغانياتِ جرُّ الذيولِ

So we must endure both this and that with patience,

while lovely women are to trail their trains.
