حَبيبيmy beloved إنّtruly حبّكlove for you ملءُthe fullness of قَلبيmy heart
وَإِنand though لَمdid not تحظَenjoy مِنof رؤياكthe sight of you عينُan eye
My beloved, indeed your love has filled my heart,
My beloved, truly my love for you fills my heart,
though no eye has been graced with a vision of you.
And though no eye has enjoyed the sight of you,
يقرّبُكَdraws you near الضميرُthe inner heart إليّto me حتّىuntil
يُخيّلit seems أنّهthat it ماnot ثمّthere بينُseparation
My inmost self draws you close to me, until
My inner heart draws you close to me, until
it seems there is no “between” there.
It seems there is no separation between us.
فَقَلبيso my heart مِنكَfrom you مرآةُa mirror of التجلّيself-revelation
وِذكركَand remembrance of you فيin جلاpolishing away الأصداءِthe rust قينُa smith
For my heart, through you, is the mirror of manifestation,
So my heart is a mirror of your self-revelation,
and remembrance of you is a smith, burnishing rust away.
And remembrance of you is a smith polishing away the rust.
وَعَينيand my eye كربلاءُKarbala جرَتflowed دماءًblood
لأنّbecause مِنهاfrom it قدindeed اِفتُقِدَwas found missing الحسينُal-Husayn
My eye is Karbala, streaming blood,
And my eye is Karbala, flowing with blood,
because al-Husayn is absent from it.
For al-Husayn is missing from it.
