بِحمدِ إلهي وَالصلاةِ عَلى الّذي

بِحمدِ إلهي وَالصلاةِ عَلى الّذي

تَنبّا وَما إِن مِن سماءٍ ولا أرضِ

تَنبّا وَما إِن مِن سماءٍ ولا أرضِ

With praise of my God, and blessings upon the one

With praise of my God and blessings upon him who

who became a prophet—none in heaven or earth compares—

became a prophet when there was neither heaven nor earth—

مُحمّدُ الموفي الشفاعةَ في غدٍ

مُحمّدُ الموفي الشفاعةَ في غدٍ

لِمانِحِهِ حتّى ببيت منَ القرضِ

لِمانِحِهِ حتّى ببيت منَ القرضِ

Muhammad, who tomorrow will repay with intercession

Muhammad, who will render full intercession on the morrow

whoever lends him even a single verse.

to whoever offers him even a single verse of poetry.

وَبعدُ فَقد أمّلت منّي إجازةً

وَبعدُ فَقد أمّلت منّي إجازةً

بِبردةِ مدحِ المُصطفى شافع العرضِ

بِبردةِ مدحِ المُصطفى شافع العرضِ

And now: you have hoped to receive from me an authorization

And now, you have hoped for authorization from me

in al-Burda, praising the Chosen One, intercessor at the Presentation,

for the Burdah praising the Chosen One, intercessor at the Judgment,

لِعلمكَ بِالفضلِ الّذي خُصّصَت بهِ

لِعلمكَ بِالفضلِ الّذي خُصّصَت بهِ

وَما ليَ فيها مِن على سندٍ محضِ

وَما ليَ فيها مِن على سندٍ محضِ

because you know the special excellence bestowed upon it,

because you know the distinction bestowed upon it,

and what I possess in it through the loftiness of a pure chain.

and the lofty, pure chain of transmission I possess for it.

فَها أَنا ذا بالإِذن فُهتُ مُؤرّخاً

فَها أَنا ذا بالإِذن فُهتُ مُؤرّخاً

أَجزتُ لَكُم بِالبردةِ العللَ المُرضي

أَجزتُ لَكُم بِالبردةِ العللَ المُرضي

So here I am: with authorization, I have uttered a chronogram:

So here I am: I have voiced the authorization, marking its date:

“I authorize you in al-Burda, the approved standard.”

I have granted you, through the Burdah, a satisfying second draught.

وَأَرجو منَ الرحمنِ حسنُ جزائهِ

وَأَرجو منَ الرحمنِ حسنُ جزائهِ

وَمِنكم دُعاء مجزي القرض بالقرضِ

وَمِنكم دُعاء مجزي القرض بالقرضِ

From the All-Merciful I hope for a gracious recompense,

And I hope for good recompense from the All-Merciful,

and from you, a prayer for one who repays loan with loan.

and from you a prayer, repaying favor with favor.

وَصلّي عَلى المُختارِ منزلِ مدحهِ

وَصلّي عَلى المُختارِ منزلِ مدحهِ

بِآياتهِ مَع آلهِ الطاهري العرضِ

بِآياتهِ مَع آلهِ الطاهري العرضِ

And bless the Chosen One, whose praise was sent down

And send blessings upon the Chosen One, whose praise was revealed

in His verses, together with his family, pure in honor.
