Longing for you, I inscribe my beating heart's yearning

as verse; perhaps you will read my truths—

    those I concealed, fearing for

the beauty that enfolds you, lest the blaze of my fires harm it.

The meeting-place has grown distant; so where are you, and where are they—

the roses of your soul from the springtime of my gardens?

And have you not had your fill of separation? How strange

that souls should shun the outpouring of my tender words.
