إلىto مَنْwhom أَشتَكيI complain، ياO ربِّmy Lord، ضَيْميthe injustice I suffer
إلى مَنْ أَشتَكي، يا ربِّ، ضَيْمي
أرىI see نفسيmyself غريبًاa stranger بَيْنَamong قوميmy people!
أرى نفسي غريبًا بَيْنَ قومي!
To whom, O Lord, shall I complain of the injustice I suffer?
To whom shall I complain, O Lord, of my distress?
I see myself as a stranger among my people!
I see myself a stranger amongst my own people!
فكمso often هتفواthey cheered بمحمودٍfor Mahmoud شكوكوShokoko
فكم هتفوا بمحمودٍ شكوكو
وماyet not شَعَرُواthey took notice بمحمودٍof Mahmoud غُنيْمGhoneim!
وما شَعَرُوا بمحمودٍ غُنيْم!
So often they cheered for Mahmoud Shokoko,
How often they cried for Muhammed with suspicion,
yet they took no notice of Mahmoud Ghoneim!
Yet never sensed Muhammed a prisoner!
