Say to Kuwait, when you set foot on its soil:

    Blessings upon your sacred valley—blessings!

How admirable you are, O Kuwait—a city

On whose soil wine is not drunk!

I have met no ‘foreign gentleman’ outside Kuwait

Who forgoes liquor and drinks carob juice.

Tell the ‘foreign gentleman’: that is our Prophet’s faith.

Are you, I wonder, angry at the Prophet’s faith?

And if you are angry, in the Gulf and its waters

There is plenty—so rise and drink it, cup after cup.
