الصِدقُ حُلوٌ وَهوَ المُرُّ

الصِدقُ حُلوٌ وَهوَ المُرُّ

وَالصِدقُ لا يَترُكُهُ الحُرُّ

Truthfulness is sweet, yet it is bitter.

Truth is sweet though bitter

And the noble man does not abandon truthfulness.

And the free man leaves it never.

جَوهَرَةُ الصِدقِ لَها جَوهَرٌ

جَوهَرَةُ الصِدقِ لَها جَوهَرٌ

يَحسُدُها الياقوتُ وَالدُرُّ

يَحسُدُها الياقوتُ وَالدُرُّ

The jewel of truthfulness has intrinsic worth;

Pearl of truth - its core is pure

Rubies and pearls envy it.

Rubies, gems to it demur.
