غِنى النَفسِ يُغنيها إِذا كُنتَ قانِعاً
وَلَيسَand is not بِمُغنيكَable to enrich you الكَثيرُabundance مَعwith الحِرصِgreed
وَلَيسَ بِمُغنيكَ الكَثيرُ مَع الحِرصِ
The soul's wealth suffices it, if you are content.
Contentment of the soul enriches it if you are satisfied,
And abundance will not enrich you amid greed.
And your striving to gain much availeth you nothing.
وَإِنَّand indeed اِعتِقادَholding fast to الهَمِّconcern لِلخَيرِof good جامِعٌa gatherer

وَقِلَّةُ هَمِّ المَرءِ تَدعو إِلى النَقصِ
And indeed, sustained concern gathers good.
And truly the belief that anxiety leads to good is all-embracing,
And a person's lack of concern leads to want.
Yet a man's lack of anxiety invites decline.
