أَيُّهاO you النادِبُwho mourns الشَبابَyouth الَّذيthat قَدhad
أَيُّها النادِبُ الشَبابَ الَّذي قَد
كُنتَyou were تَجفوهُshunning it مَرَّةًonce وَتَعِقُّهand mistreating it
كُنتَ تَجفوهُ مَرَّةً وَتَعِقُّه
O you who mourn the youth that you had
O you who blame youth
Once shunned and mistreated,
Once you disdained and spurned it
لَوif بَكَيتَyou wept for الشَبابَyouth عُمرَfor the lifetime of اللَياليthe nights
لَو بَكَيتَ الشَبابَ عُمرَ اللَيالي
لَمnot تَكُنyou would be باكِياًweeping بِماto the extent that يَستَحِقُّهit deserves it
لَم تَكُن باكِياً بِما يَستَحِقُّه
If you wept for youth for as long as the nights endure,
If you wept for youth as long as nights live
You would not be weeping as much as it deserves.
You would not weep enough for what it deserves
