ياO خاضِبَyou who dye الشَيبِthe gray hair الَّذيthat
فيin كُلِّevery ثالِثَةٍthird day يَعودُreturns
O you who dye the gray hair that
O dyer of the gray hair that
returns every third day,
Returns every three days,
إِنَّindeed النُصولَthe fading of the dye إِذاwhen بَداappears
فَكَأَنَّهُthen it is as though it were شَيبٌgray hair جَديدُnew
indeed, when the dye's fading shows,
When the new growth appears
it is as though new gray hair has appeared.
It seems as if it were new grayness.
وَلَهُand it has بَديهَةُa sudden onset رَوعَةٍof fright
مَكروهُهاits unpleasantness أَبَداًalways عَتيدُat hand
And with it comes a sudden fright,
And it has an obvious splendor
whose unpleasantness is always at hand.
That is never undesirable.

So leave the gray hair as it has
So leave the gray hair as I see fit
willed, for it will not return as you wish.
For it will not return as you wish.
