سُقياًa blessing of rain لِأَيّامٍfor days تَوَلَّتhave passed بِهاin them
أَحسَنَat their best ماwhen كانَتwere صُروفُvicissitudes of الزَمَنtime
May rain bless the days gone by, in which
A drink for days gone by,
the turns of time were at their best,
When time's vicissitudes were at their best,
إِذwhen أَنتَyou فيin شَرخِthe bloom of الشَبابِyouth الَّذيwhich
يَحسُنُlooks beautiful فيهِin it مِنكَof you غَيرُwhat is not الحَسَنbeautiful
when you were in the bloom of youth, in which
As you were in the bloom of youth,
even what was not beautiful in you looked beautiful.
When your beauty was more than beautiful.
وَلّىit has passed وَماand not الدُنياthe world بِأَقطارِهاwith all its regions
لِليَومِfor a day وَالساعَةِand an hour مِنهُof it ثَمَنa price
It has passed, and the world, in all its reaches,
Yet time has passed, nothing remains,
cannot buy a day or an hour of it.
No moment lasts, nothing for sale.
