أَماIs it not عَجَبٌa wonder أَنthat يكفَلَstand surety الناسُpeople بَعضهُمsome of them
بِبَعضٍfor others فَيَرضىso is satisfied بِالكَفيلِwith the guarantor المُطالِبُthe claimant
Is it not a wonder that some people stand surety
How strange that people guarantee each other
for others, and the claimant is content with the guarantor?
And the demander is satisfied with the guarantor.
وَقَدand indeed كَفَلَhas stood surety اللَهُGod الوَفِيُّthe faithful one بِعَهدِهto His covenant
فَلَمyet did not يرضَfeel satisfied وَالإِنسانُand man فيهِin him عَجائِبُwonders
And God, faithful to His covenant, has stood surety,
Yet Allah, the fulfiller, guaranteed His covenant
yet he is not content—and man is full of wonders.
But man is not convinced—how wondrous!
عَليمٌwell aware بِأَنَّthat اللَهَGod موفٍone who fulfills بِوَعدِهِHis promise
وَفيand in قَلبِهِhis heart شَكٌّdoubt عَلىupon القَلبِthe heart دائِبُunceasing
He knows that God fulfills His promise,
He knows that Allah keeps His promise
yet in his heart is doubt, ever weighing upon the heart.
Yet doubt persists in his heart constantly.
أَبىrefused الجَهلُignorance إِلّاanything but أَنto يَضُرَّdo harm بِعِلمِهِto his knowledge
فَلَمso did not يُغنِavail عَنهُhim عِلمهُhis knowledge وَالتَجارِبُand experiences
Ignorance insists on harming his knowledge,
Ignorance insisted on harming his knowledge
so neither his knowledge nor experience avails him.
So his knowledge and experiences did not benefit him.
