أرانيI see myself فيin اِنتِقاصdecline كُلّevery يَومday
وَلاand not يَبقىremains مَعَwith النُقصانِthe decline شَيُّanything
I see myself dwindling every day,
I see myself diminishing day after day
And with decline, nothing remains.
And nothing remains with diminishment alive
طَوىfolded up العَصرانِday and night ماwhat نَشَراهُthey both unfolded it مِنّيof me
فَأَخلَقَso wore out جِدَّتيmy freshness نَشرٌunfolding وَطَيُّand folding
Day and night have folded up what they unfolded of me;
Time has folded what it unfolded of me
So unfolding and folding have worn away my freshness.
So my liveliness is folding and unfolding
فَإِنso if أَكُI am قَدalready فَنيتُI have wasted away وَماتَand died بَعضيpart of me
فَإِنَّthen indeed الحِرصَgreed باقٍremaining فِيَّin me حَيُّalive
So if I have wasted away and part of me has died,
If I am gone, expired, and some of me died
Then greed remains alive within me.
Desire remains alive in me, lively
عَصيتُI disobeyed الرُشدَright guidance إِذwhen أُدعىI am called إِلَيهِto it
وَمُلِّكَand was granted طاعَتيmy obedience ضَعفٌweakness وَعَيُّand incapacity
I disobeyed right guidance when called to it,
I disobeyed what’s right when I was called to it
And weakness and incapacity were granted my obedience.
And weakness and distress made me obey
