عُمرِ الدَريسِ عَلى الدِراسَه

I have devoted what remains of the

Worn-out life to study,

long life to studying

في كُلِّ علمٍ فاضِلٍ

في كُلِّ علمٍ فاضِلٍ

لا في اليَتيمَةِ وَالحَماسَه

لا في اليَتيمَةِ وَالحَماسَه

In every noble branch of knowledge,

every noble science,

Not in al-Yatīmah and al-Ḥamāsah.

not to orphanhood and zeal.

أَرجو بِذاكَ الفَوزَ لا

أَرجو بِذاكَ الفَوزَ لا

طُرقَ المجانَةِ وَالكِياسَه

طُرقَ المجانَةِ وَالكِياسَه

Through that I hope for success, not

I hope for success through this, not

The paths of licentiousness and cleverness.

through flattery and begging.
