لَبِستُI wore صُروفَvicissitudes الدَهرِof time كَهلاًas a grown man وَناشِئاًand as a youth
وَجَرَّبتُand I experienced حالَيهِits two states عَلىin العُسرِhardship وَاليُسرِand ease
I have worn time’s vicissitudes, as a grown man and as a youth;
And experienced both its states, in hardship and ease.
فَلَمso … not أَرَI saw بَعدَafter الدينِfaith خَيراًanything better مِنَthan الغِنىwealth
وَلَمand … not أَرَI saw بَعدَafter الكُفرِunbelief شَرّاًanything worse مِنَthan الفَقرِpoverty
So, after faith, I have seen nothing better than wealth;
And, after unbelief, I have seen nothing worse than poverty.
