أَفِدنيbenefit me فَعِلمُكَfor your knowledge مُستَظرَفُdelightful
وَبَحرُكَand your ocean فيin العِلمِknowledge لاnot يُنزَفُis drained
Enlighten me, for your knowledge is delightful.
Enlighten me, for your knowledge is admirable,
And your ocean of knowledge cannot be drained.
And your sea of knowledge has no ebb.
فَمِثلُكَfor one like you مَنone who يُتحِفُbestows gifts on السائِلينthose who ask
وَمِثلِيَand one like me بِالعِلمِwith knowledge مَنone who يُتحَفُis given a gift
For one like you bestows gifts on those who ask.
One like you enriches those who ask,
And one like me receives knowledge as a gift.
While one like me is enriched.
لَقَدindeed كُنتُI used to أَسمَعُhear فيكَabout you الصِفاتِthe qualities
وَفَضلُكَand your excellence فَوقَbeyond الَّذيwhat يوصَفُis described
Indeed, I had heard of your qualities.
Indeed, I have heard your virtues described,
Yet your excellence surpasses what is described.
And your merit surpasses all description.
