تَمَتَّعenjoy بِمالِكَyour wealth قَبلَbefore المَماتِdeath
تَمَتَّع بِمالِكَ قَبلَ المَماتِ
وَإِلّاand otherwise فَلاthen no مالَwealth إِنif أَنتَyou متّاyou die
وَإِلّا فَلا مالَ إِن أَنتَ متّا
Enjoy your wealth before death;
Enjoy your wealth before death.
otherwise, it is no wealth of yours once you die.
Otherwise, if you die, no wealth is yours.
شقيتَyou suffered بِهِfor it ثمَّthen خَلَّفتَهُyou left it behind
شقيتَ بِهِ ثمَّ خَلَّفتَهُ
لِغَيرِكَfor someone other than you بُعداًbanishment وَسُحقاًand ruin وَمَقتاand loathing
لِغَيرِكَ بُعداً وَسُحقاً وَمَقتا
You toiled miserably for it, then left it behind
You suffered for it, then left it behind
to someone else—banishment, perdition, and loathing!
For someone else—banishment, ruin, and loathing!
فَجادواso they were generous عَلَيكَto you بِزورِwith sham البُكاweeping
فَجادوا عَلَيكَ بِزورِ البُكا
وَجُدتَand you were generous عَلَيهِمto them بِماwith what قَدalready جَمَعتاyou amassed
وَجُدتَ عَلَيهِم بِما قَد جَمَعتا
They lavished false tears upon you,
So they lavished feigned tears upon you,
while you lavished on them all that you had amassed.
And you lavished upon them what you had amassed.
وَأَوهَبتَهُمand you bestowed on them كُلَّall ماthat which فيin يَدَيكyour two hands
وَأَوهَبتَهُم كُلَّ ما في يَدَيك
وَخَلّوكَand they left you رَهناًheld in pledge بِماfor what قَدalready كَسَبتاyou earned
وَخَلّوكَ رَهناً بِما قَد كَسَبتا
You bestowed on them everything your hands possessed,
And you bestowed on them all that was in your hands,
and they left you hostage to what you had earned.
