إِذا أَعطى القَليلَ فَتىً شَريف

إِذا أَعطى القَليلَ فَتىً شَريف

فَإِنَّ قَليلَ ما يُعطيهِ زَينُ

فَإِنَّ قَليلَ ما يُعطيهِ زَينُ

If a noble young man gives a little,

When the noble youth gives little

then the little he gives is an adornment.

His little gift is fair to see

وَإِن تَكُنِ العَطِيَّةُ مِن دَنِيٍّ

وَإِن تَكُنِ العَطِيَّةُ مِن دَنِيٍّ

فَإِنَّ كَثيرَهُ عارٌ وَشَينُ

فَإِنَّ كَثيرَهُ عارٌ وَشَينُ

And if the gift comes from a base man,

And if a gift comes from the lowly

then his abundant giving is shame and disgrace.

Though much, it is but shame to thee

وَلا يَرضى الكَريمُ بِيَومِ عار

وَلا يَرضى الكَريمُ بِيَومِ عار

وَإِن أَوهى وَهَدَّ قُواهُ دَينُ

وَإِن أَوهى وَهَدَّ قُواهُ دَينُ

And a noble man will not accept a day of shame,

The generous scorn a shameful day

even if debt weakens and breaks his strength.

Though strength and power begin to pine

فَعُذ بِاللَهِ وَالجا إِلَيهِ إِمّا

فَعُذ بِاللَهِ وَالجا إِلَيهِ إِمّا

بَدَت لَكَ حاجَةٌ أَو كانَ كَونُ

بَدَت لَكَ حاجَةٌ أَو كانَ كَونُ

So seek refuge in God and turn to Him if

Then seek God's help, to Him make way

a need arises for you or an event comes to pass.

If need arise or fate's design
