هِيَit is الدُنياthe world وَزُخرُفُهاand its finery
هِيَ الدُنيا وَزُخرُفُها
وَلَكِنbut ماwhat مَصائِرُهاits ultimate ends
وَلَكِن ما مَصائِرُها
Such is the world and its finery,
It is the life and its embellishments,
but what are its ultimate ends?
Yet what will be the fate of them?
لَئِنif indeed غَرَّتhave beguiled منابِرُهاits pulpits
لَئِن غَرَّت منابِرُها
فَقَدthen indeed وَعَظَتhave admonished مَقابِرُهاits graves
فَقَد وَعَظَت مَقابِرُها
If indeed its pulpits have beguiled,
If its pulpits have deceived,
then its graves have surely admonished.
Its graves have given good counsel.
وَإِنand if غَشَّتhave deceived مَوارِدُهاits watering places
وَإِن غَشَّت مَوارِدُها
فَقَدthen indeed نَصَحَتhave offered sincere counsel مَصادِرُهاits places of departure
فَقَد نَصَحَت مَصادِرُها
And if its watering places have deceived,
And if its springs have been perfidious,
then its departures have surely offered sincere counsel.
Its sources have been sincere.
