اِشتَعَلَflared up الشَيبُgrey hair فَأَفنَيتُهُso I wiped it out
اِشتَعَلَ الشَيبُ فَأَفنَيتُهُ
وَكلَّand grew blunt مِقراضيmy shears فَأَعتَقتُهُso I set it free
وَكلَّ مِقراضي فَأَعتَقتُهُ
Grey hair flared up, so I wiped it out.
The grey hair blazed, so I removed it,
And my shears grew blunt, so I set it free.
And freed all my scissors,
كُنتُI used to إِذاwhenever اِستَقصَيتُI was thorough in قَصّيmy clipping لَهُof it
كُنتُ إِذا اِستَقصَيتُ قَصّي لَهُ
وَقُلتُand I said فيwithin نَفسِيَmyself أَفنَيتُهُI wiped it out
وَقُلتُ في نَفسِيَ أَفنَيتُهُ
Whenever I was thorough in clipping it,
When I scrutinized my story for it,
And said to myself, "I have wiped it out,"
And said to myself, “I’ve removed it,”
عارَضَنيit confronted me مِنfrom جانِبٍa side آخَرٍanother
عارَضَني مِن جانِبٍ آخَرٍ
كَأَنَّنيas though I قَدalready كُنتُI had زَمَّلتُهُI wrapped it up
كَأَنَّني قَد كُنتُ زَمَّلتُهُ
It would confront me from another side,
It confronted me from another side,
As though I had wrapped it up.
As if I had adorned it before.
الشَيبُgrey hair ماthat which لَيسَتthere is not لَهُfor it حيلَةٌa remedy
الشَيبُ ما لَيسَت لَهُ حيلَةٌ
أَعيانِيَdefeated me الشَيبُgrey hair فَخَلَّيتُهُso I left it alone
أَعيانِيَ الشَيبُ فَخَلَّيتُهُ
Grey hair is something for which there is no remedy.
Grey hair has no solution,
Grey hair defeated me, so I left it alone.
It troubled me, so I left it.
