إِلىto نَفسِهِhis own self وَتَوَلّىand turned away كَئيباsorrowful
إِلى نَفسِهِ وَتَوَلّى كَئيبا
And many a sick man’s death has the physician foretold,
How often a doctor pronounced a patient beyond all hope -
to the man himself, then turned away sorrowful;
In whispers, gloomily, resigned to fate;
فَماتَthen died الطَبيبُthe physician وَعاشَand lived المَريضُthe sick man
فَماتَ الطَبيبُ وَعاشَ المَريضُ
فَأَضحىso he came to be إِلىto الناسِthe people يَنعىannounces the death of الطَبيباthe physician
فَأَضحى إِلى الناسِ يَنعى الطَبيبا
yet the physician died, and the sick man lived,
Then the doctor died and the patient recovered,
so he in turn announced the physician’s death to the people.
And began telling people the doctor had passed away.
