إليكto you لقدindeed جربتI have experienced كلَّevery بليةٍaffliction
إليك لقد جربت كلَّ بليةٍ
فلمyet did not أرَI find فيamong البلوىafflictions أشدَّharsher منthan الفقرِpoverty
فلم أرَ في البلوى أشدَّ من الفقرِ
To you I say: I have indeed experienced every affliction;
I have endured every misery,
Yet among afflictions I have found none harsher than poverty.
yet found no misery worse than poverty.
أخُوbrother of الفقرِpoverty فيin النادِيthe assembly ذليلabased مُكسَّبmade to earn a living
أخُو الفقرِ في النادِي ذليل مُكسَّب
وذُوand the possessor of المالwealth فيat صدرِthe head of المجالسgatherings كالصقرlike the falcon
وذُو المال في صدرِ المجالس كالصقر
Poverty’s brother is abased in the assembly, made to earn his living;
In the gathering, poverty's brother is disgraced,
And the wealthy man is at the head of gatherings, like a falcon.
while the wealthy at the head of the assembly sit like falcons.
