Peace, salutations, and a thousand joys—

I offer them especially to Salim, virtuous and rightly guided,

Descendant of Khamis, son of the pure-hearted Mubarak,

For he has become our peaceable friend.

My greetings be upon you at every moment and hour,

Unceasingly—the loss of a companion is grief enough for doves.

We lent you, O affectionate friend, seven poems,

And you traveled for a long time and have returned safely.

So, in your loftiest generosity, bestow them upon us,

Quickly, as we bestow generous favors upon you.

May I be your ransom! Release them: here is our messenger,

Khamis, the sincere friend, who has come to bring you word.

So hand him what was lent and is now being reclaimed,

And you are blameless, spared reproaches.

And far be it from you—nay, far be it—that he return disappointed,

For you have become a close companion, sharing our fellowship.

If you desire a favor from us, it will be fulfilled,

By leave of God, who has taken charge of affairs.

We single you out with salutations, blessed son,

Peace and salutations at closely spaced intervals.

    And take it—a gift from a Mu‘wali,

It delights you—nay, bestows gains upon you.

It consoles the hearts of lovers, as though it were

A beloved who has come back to his family.

Its absence keeps the eyelids of slumber sleepless,

As though, through reunion, it awakens one who stands.

Rhymes with moist pearls as their servants,

Just as I have become a servant to the virtuous son of Sultan.

And send blessings, my God, at every moment and hour,

Upon Ahmad, the noblest of humankind in virtue.
