ما حذرنّ الدنيَا كما تحذر الحيَّة

فالسم ناقعٌ وَسْطَ فيها

فالسم ناقعٌ وَسْطَ فيها

[Opening unclear:] Beware the world as you beware a snake.

The world never warned like a snake

For deadly poison lies within her mouth.

Its poison festering within

فاجتنبْها واخلعْ عِذَارَك مِنها

فاجتنبْها واخلعْ عِذَارَك مِنها

فهي غَدَّارةٌ لِمنْ يَصْطَفِيهَا

فهي غَدَّارةٌ لِمنْ يَصْطَفِيهَا

So shun her, and unfasten your bridle from her.

So shun it, cast off your excuses

For she is treacherous to whoever chooses her.

It betrays those who befriend it

لا تفترْ على عِيالِك إن كنت

غنيّاً واجمل والبَسْطَ فيهَا

Do not neglect your dependents if you are

wealthy; act with moderation and generosity in it.
