لاdo not تبخَلنbe miserly وأعطِand give كلاَّeach person حقَّهhis due
لا تبخَلن وأعطِ كلاَّ حقَّه
وتواضعنَّand be humble وجالِسِand sit with المُسْكِينَاthe poor man
وتواضعنَّ وجالِسِ المُسْكِينَا
Do not be miserly, and give everyone their due.
Do not be stingy, give each their due rights
And be humble, and sit with the poor man.
Be humble, sit with the poor
إياكَbeware والسرَّand the secret الذيwhich أوزعتَهyou were inspired with it
إياكَ والسرَّ الذي أوزعتَه
لوْeven if ناقشوكthey question you بدونهwithout it مَدْفُونَاburied
لوْ ناقشوك بدونه مَدْفُونَا
Beware of revealing the secret imparted to you,
Beware of the secret you have confided
Even if they question you, answer without disclosing it, keeping it buried.
If discussed without it, you would be buried
فإذاso if أردتَyou wish دوامَcontinuance شىءsomething هكذاin this way
فإذا أردتَ دوامَ شىء هكذا
وإذاand if أردتمyou all wish ضدّهits opposite فاعصُونَاthen disobey us
وإذا أردتم ضدّه فاعصُونَا
So if you wish something to endure, act in this way;
If you want something to last forever
And if you wish its opposite, then disobey us.
And if you want the opposite, disobey us
لاnot يستوىis equal حلٌّuntying وعقدٌand tying بينكمamong you
لا يستوى حلٌّ وعقدٌ بينكم
هذاthis one يحلُّunties وذاكand that one يعقدُties حينَاfor a time
هذا يحلُّ وذاك يعقدُ حينَا
Untying and tying are not alike among you:
Right and wrong are not equal amongst you
This one unties, and that one ties for a time.
This one makes lawful, that one forbids at times
إنindeed الخلافdiscord مشتتٌscattering ومفرقٌand divisive
إن الخلاف مشتتٌ ومفرقٌ
ماwhat lies بينbetween آباءfathers لهمof theirs وبنينَاand sons
ما بين آباء لهم وبنينَا
Indeed, discord scatters and divides
Disagreement divides and separates
Fathers and sons among them.
Between fathers who have sons
طوبىblessedness لهمfor them خلصواthey became sincere وداداًin affection بينهمbetween them
طوبى لهم خلصوا وداداً بينهم
وجلبنَand they brought رحمةَmercy ربهمtheir Lord يَرْجُونَاthey hope for
وجلبنَ رحمةَ ربهم يَرْجُونَا
Blessed are they, sincere in their affection for one another,
Blessed are they who have reconciled in friendship
And they have drawn their Lord's mercy, for which they hope.
And hope for the mercy of their Lord
وأولئكand those القومُthe people الذينَwho جزاؤهمtheir reward
وأولئك القومُ الذينَ جزاؤهم
جناتُgardens عدنEden خالدينdwelling forever يقينَاcertainly
جناتُ عدن خالدين يقينَا
And those are the people whose reward is
Those people whose reward
Gardens of Eden, where they shall surely dwell forever.
Are the Gardens of Eden, abiding eternally
إناindeed we لنرجوwe surely hope فَوْزَناour salvation بدعائهمthrough their prayers
إنا لنرجو فَوْزَنا بدعائهم
فاللهso God يرحُمناhas mercy on us بِهمthrough them ويقينَاand protects us
فالله يرحُمنا بِهم ويقينَا
Indeed, we surely hope for our salvation through their prayers;
We hope for success through their prayer
For God has mercy on us through them and protects us.
May God have mercy on us through them
