ثنتانِ لا تنساهما واذكرهما

ذكرُ الإله وهازِمُ اللذاتِ

ذكرُ الإله وهازِمُ اللذاتِ

Two things—do not forget them, and remember them:

Remembrance of God and the vanquisher of pleasures.

واثنان لا تذكرهما واعرفهما

واثنان لا تذكرهما واعرفهما

سوءُ المسىء وفَعْلَهُ الحسناتِ

سوءُ المسىء وفَعْلَهُ الحسناتِ

And two things—do not recall them, and know them:

The wrongdoer’s wrongdoing and his doing of good deeds.

أجمعُ أموالا وأشَقى بجمعها

أجمعُ أموالا وأشَقى بجمعها

وأنسج آمالا بطول حياتي

وأنسج آمالا بطول حياتي

I gather wealth and suffer in gathering it,

And I weave hopes of a long life.

وأمسكها حيّاً وأعلم أنهما

وأمسكها حيّاً وأعلم أنهما

سيأكلها عفْواً حليلُ بَناتي

سيأكلها عفْواً حليلُ بَناتي

And I keep it while alive, knowing that both of them

Will be devoured without effort by my daughters’ husband.
