A graceful young woman passed, like a slender bamboo twig,
She passed by like silk threads, Ghadah
captivating intellects and snatching minds away.
Bewitching minds and capturing intellects
لوif تطلبُshe asks for المالَwealth النفيسprecious تواصلاًfor closeness
لو تطلبُ المالَ النفيس تواصلاً
مِنْfrom عندthe possession of كلِّall العالمينthe world's people لهَانَاit would be trifling
مِنْ عند كلِّ العالمين لهَانَا
Were she to ask for precious wealth in return for closeness,
If you seek precious wealth as a connection
from all the world's people, it would be a trifling price.
From all people, it would be humbled
شمسيةَsunlike قمريةٌmoonlike رشئيّةٌlike a young gazelle
شمسيةَ قمريةٌ رشئيّةٌ
تذكارُهاremembrance of her عنaway from ديننَاour faith أَلهَانَاdistracted us
تذكارُها عن ديننَا أَلهَانَا
Sunlike, moonlike, like a young gazelle,
Sunny, moonlit, delightful
remembrance of her distracted us from our faith.
Remembering her weakened our faith
لماwhen رأتنيshe saw me واقفاstanding بطريقهاin her path
لما رأتني واقفا بطريقها
فتنفرتْthen she recoiled بلrather أنكرتْshe disavowed ماwhat كانَاhad been
فتنفرتْ بل أنكرتْ ما كانَا
When she saw me standing in her path,
When she saw me standing in her path
she recoiled—rather, disavowed what had been.
She recoiled, denying what had been
ياO هذهyou, this lady ماhow أطيبَsweet الدنياworldly life لوif only أنّthat
يا هذه ما أطيبَ الدنيا لو أنّ
هراكَunclear as written; possibly 'your desire' فيin كلِّall الأمورmatters هوانَاour desire
هراكَ في كلِّ الأمور هوانَا
O lady, how sweet life would be, if only
Oh this, how good is life if only
your desire [conjectural reading], in all matters, were our desire.
Seeing you in all things was humbling
أوليتَyou bestowed أفئدةhearts الرجالِof men بُعَيْدَshortly after ماthat (introducing the following action)
أوليتَ أفئدة الرجالِ بُعَيْدَ ما
فارقْتِyou departed from جيرتهمtheir neighborhood هَوّىpassion (apparently intended) وهَوانَاand humiliation
