    Abul-Arab, the valiant, just king,

you are the noble youth; through you the errant is set straight.

None who hopes for your generous bounty is disappointed

among these people; but the reproacher is disappointed.

You are the brimming, sweet sea, whose

bounty puts the slow-flowing stream to shame.

So it is as though you made a pact with yourself, or swore

an oath that no petitioner would be disappointed.

And when the noble vie in boasting of noble deeds,

and compete one day in merit, you are the foremost.

And when armored warriors hang back in a tight spot,

or shrink back one day, you are the one who presses on.

O seeker of his bounty, do not reveal your wish:

for what is sought from him is granted without asking.

Should I fear time's misfortunes and its turns,

while my cord is joined to a cord of affection from you?

How often your favor has garlanded the necks of humankind,

and means of aid have made their way from you to them.

So it is as though you swore that you would never turn away

petitioners; so no petitioner of yours has been disappointed.

And when a man's dwelling lies desolate, and he has not

asked for your bounty, you inquire after him.

No hopeful man seeking bounty has ever made for your sea,

without fulfillment of what that hopeful man desires.

No watcher has sighted the lightning of your palm's cloud,

but a ceaseless, heavy downpour has engulfed him.

And its chieftains and kings have bowed to you,

    willingly, each standing humbled.

They come to a brimming sea of your bounty,

sweet and refreshing, whose bounds no petitioner has encompassed.

Do not overlook a worthy young man in Nizwa:

this one sits hoping, and this one stands before you.

Live in the kingdoms, in bliss, with an everlasting

life, for you have no equal among humankind.

The world is adorned by you, for you are its joy

and its bliss; through you the crooked is set straight.

Without you, no person's life would be pleasant,

truly, nor would any sensible person relish food.

What is time, what is the world, and what are its pleasures?

For you are time itself, and the light of your face encompasses all.
