    Darwish, you with hideous offspring,

Woe to your father, O father of the rabble!

O Kaaba of the base—nay, O vilest of the

Vile—nay, O most ignorant of the ignorant!

O you of evil character—nay, O most sinful of the

Sinners—nay, O most cowardly of the cowards!

O mine of corruption—nay, O watering place of the

    Scoundrels—nay, O wild-ass foal of the desert!

O ladder of the ignorant—nay, O humiliation of the

Reproachers—nay, O most tiresome of the tiresome!

O foulest in morals and character among mankind,

O ulcer in the heart and entrails!

O most deceitful of the misguided in their accounts,

And vilest of those who walk upon the dusty earth!

And you assailed Abd Allah, a descendant of Muhammad,

The judge of mankind, with that hideous utterance.

Far be it from Mahmud's son, the saint, the chosen one,

A man of loyalty and a mine of blessings!

Ruin and disgrace upon you, O descendant of Mushmil!

And you gained honor when I directed my call at you.

Your worth did not warrant my satire.

Oh, how it burns me! I wasted my satire on you.

And one of the wonders is that you are dead,

Yet in this world you are counted among the living.

Words of censure have grown too narrow for you, for I

See you as nothing among things.

May you be torn to utter shreds, alone among mankind,

O guest in a time of drought, on a day of high prices!

Do you fault one whose sandal strap you are not worth,

And revile him, O foulest of fools?

May your two hands be paralyzed, your mouth shattered, and scattered be

Your hands, O brother of affliction and misery!

And I see you, O you whose eyes are blind to guidance,

    Straying in blind darkness.

And I see you have disparaged the light upon our horizons,

And spurred the horses of ignorance through the darkness.

Had Adam known that from his loins

You would come, he would have fled and turned away from Eve.

If you gave the dusty earth redress against yourself, you would sink into

The deepest depths, in a hideous form.

Take it, a far-reaching missive, its waves crashing

With censure like the crashing of the sea.

It has come to you, hastening with poisons, swift

In its movement, like the speckled serpent.

It will clothe you on the Day of Gathering in a robe of humiliation,

Until you arrive with a black drawstring.

If you do not repent, then upon you be our God's curse,

Forever abiding, O father of obscenity!
