Three things: a man's ruin lies in them, so leave them.

And resist desire, O you who linger.

They are blameworthy anger and the haste that

Is condemned among the virtuous; obscenity is the third.

Three things through which a man sets his faith aright,

And is praised for good deeds among humankind:

A young man's discharge of every obligation to his Lord,

And truthfulness that befriends him, and sincerity of intention.

Three things bring sickness to body and heart,

And he who keeps to them suffers harm throughout his life:

Namely, excessive intercourse with fair women, and overindulgence in food,

And a man's excessive sleep in the early mornings.
