ستسقَى قوافِي الشعرِ بعدى وأعظمى
مغيبةٌburied فيin التُّرْبِthe earth وهيand they are رِمَامُcrumbling remains
مغيبةٌ في التُّرْبِ وهي رِمَامُ
Poetry’s rhymes will be watered after I am gone, while my bones
My poetry's rhymes will be irrigated after me, though I decay
Lie buried in the earth, crumbling remains.
Buried in the soil while my bones slowly wear away
ألاAh! ليتَif only شعريmy knowledge بعدُafterward فيin أيwhat حالةٍstate
ألا ليتَ شعري بعدُ في أي حالةٍ
إذاwhen آنَthe time comes ليfor me يومَon the day of الحسابِreckoning قِيامُrising
إذا آنَ لي يومَ الحسابِ قِيامُ
Ah, if only I knew what state I shall be in afterward,
Oh, if only my poetry could foresee in what state
When it is time for me to rise on the Day of Reckoning.
It will be on Judgement Day when all shall awake
