لِمَن طَلَلٌ تَضَمَّنَهُ أُثالُ

لِمَن طَلَلٌ تَضَمَّنَهُ أُثالُ

فَسَرحَةُ فَالمَرانَةُ فَالخَيالُ

فَسَرحَةُ فَالمَرانَةُ فَالخَيالُ

Whose are the campsite ruins encompassed by Uthāl,

For whom is a ruined abode which includes meadows,

And Sarḥah, and al-Marānah, and al-Khayāl,

So sprawling, and imaginings, and a spring,

فَنَبعٌ فَالنَبيعُ فَذو سُدَيرٍ

فَنَبعٌ فَالنَبيعُ فَذو سُدَيرٍ

لِئارامِ النِعاجِ بِهِ سِخالُ

لِئارامِ النِعاجِ بِهِ سِخالُ

And Nabʿ, and al-Nabīʿ, and Dhū Sudayr?

And a little spring, even one with Sudeir,

There the white female antelopes have young.

For the comfort of sheep through it - refuge.

ذَكَرتُ بِهِ الفَوارِسَ وَالنَدامى

ذَكَرتُ بِهِ الفَوارِسَ وَالنَدامى

فَدَمعُ العَينِ سَحٌّ وَاِنهِمالُ

فَدَمعُ العَينِ سَحٌّ وَاِنهِمالُ

There I recalled the horsemen and drinking companions,

I recalled in it the horsemen and the reproachers,

So my eye's tears pour down and stream.

So the tears of the eye flowing, and being ladled.

كَأَنّي في نَدِيِّ بَني أُقَيشٍ

كَأَنّي في نَدِيِّ بَني أُقَيشٍ

إِذا ما جِئتَ نادِيَهُم تُهالُ

إِذا ما جِئتَ نادِيَهُم تُهالُ

As though I were in the assembly of Banū Uqaysh—

As if I were in the nitty valley of Bani Uqaysh,

When you come to their gathering place, you are awed.

When you come calling them - they answer.

تَكاثَرَ قُرزُلٌ وَالجَونُ فيها

تَكاثَرَ قُرزُلٌ وَالجَونُ فيها

وَتَحجُلُ وَالنَعامَةُ وَالخَبالُ

وَتَحجُلُ وَالنَعامَةُ وَالخَبالُ

Qurzul and al-Jawn grew numerous there,

Bustards gathered, and beauty in them,

And Taḥjul, and al-Naʿāmah, and al-Khabāl:

Modesty, and ostriches, and the young mountain goats.

بَقايا مِن تُراثِ مُقَدِّماتٍ

بَقايا مِن تُراثِ مُقَدِّماتٍ

وَما جَمَعَ المَرابيعُ الثِقالُ

وَما جَمَعَ المَرابيعُ الثِقالُ

Remnants of the inheritance of leading mares,

Remnants from the heritage of predecessors,

And what the mighty quarter-share-taking chiefs amassed.

And what heavy caravans gathered.
