When Amir called on me to revile them,

I refused, even though Ibn Aysa was unjust,

    lest al-Sandari become my rival,

and I turn peoples into vast, gathered throngs,

and unearth from beneath the graves forefathers—

noble men who tied amulets upon me.

I played on their shoulders and in their laps

as an infant, and they called me Benefactor and Protector.

Indeed, whichever of us was worse to Malik,

may he forever be blamed and blaming in this world.
