ياO ضَمرَḌamr ياO عَبدَslave of بَنيsons of كِلابِKilāb
يا ضَمرَ يا عَبدَ بَني كِلابِ
ياO أَيرَpenis of كَلبٍa dog عَلِقٍcaught بِبابِat a door
يا أَيرَ كَلبٍ عَلِقٍ بِبابِ
O Ḍamr, O slave of Banū Kilāb!
O ignoble slave, son of dogs,
O penis of a dog caught at a door!
O lowest dog attached to the door,
تَمكوwhistles اِستَهُhis anus مِنfrom حَذَرِfear of الغُرابِthe raven
تَمكو اِستَهُ مِن حَذَرِ الغُرابِ
ياO وَرلاًa monitor lizard أُلقِيَwas cast فيinto سَرابِa mirage
يا وَرلاً أُلقِيَ في سَرابِ
His anus whistles for fear of the raven.
They have prohibited you out of fear of crows,
O monitor lizard cast into a mirage!
O one thrown into a mirage,
أَكانَwas ...? هَذاthis أَوَّلَfirst الثَوابِthe recompense
أَكانَ هَذا أَوَّلَ الثَوابِ
لاlet not يَعلَقَنكُمsurely catch you (plural) ظُفُريmy claw وَنابيand my fang
لا يَعلَقَنكُم ظُفُري وَنابي
Was this the first recompense?
Was this your first reward?
Let not my claw and my fang catch you!
Do not let my claws and fangs get you,
إِنّيindeed I إِذاwhen عاقَبتُI punish ذوpossessor of عِقابِretribution
إِنّي إِذا عاقَبتُ ذو عِقابِ
بِصارِمٍwith a sharp sword مُذَكَّرِhardened الذُبابِthe sword-point
بِصارِمٍ مُذَكَّرِ الذُبابِ
Indeed, when I punish, I am one who exacts retribution,
For when I punish one deserving punishment,
With a sharp sword, hardened at the point.
With a sword that slaughters flies,
